Stony Bono skins up Down Under PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 10 July 2007 14:34

Silverchair lead singer/guitarist Daniel Johns calls it "one of the surreal moments of my life." BonoHe's referring to the recent occasion when he, his wife - pop singer Natalie Imbruglia - Labor party leader and former Midnight Oil singer Peter Garrett and Bono (yes, he of U2) got together for a smoke at Bono's pad in Sydney.

We'll let Johns tell the story:

"Bono invited me over to a house he was staying at in Sydney and asked if I'd play the demos [of Silverchair's new album Young Modern]. It was me, Natalie, Peter Garrett and Bono laying on Bono's bed smoking joints listening to the Young Modern demo."

SilverchairAfter Johns made his startling revelation on the Triple J radio station, he gulped and said, "I really should shut up and stick to singing."

Young Modern is Silverchair's fifth album. The grunge band achieved its greatest success in the '90s with Frog Stomp (1995) and Freak Show (1997). Johns formed Silverchair in 1992 with Newcastle schoolmates, bassist Chris Joannou and drummer Ben Gillies.
