Weeds went to blazes in the hot-hot-hot final episode of Season 3 ("Go"). Blame it on Nancy Botwin (Mary-Louise Parker) who hired drug thug Guillermo (Guillermo Diaz) for muscle after bikers threatened her weed business. Guillermo wasted no time, torching the bikers' outdoor pot field, which turned into a raging forest-fire, mirroring the recent Southern California inferno. Then Nancy literally burned down her house, leaving the bud-dealing family homeless as the head into Season 4 in 2008. Here's a recap of Season 3 highlights: • It all began with dueling drug gangs fighting over Nancy's stash. U-Turn (Page Kennedy) won that battle and forced Nancy to pay back her debt after Celia Hodes (Elizabeth Perkins) dumped all the buds into Nancy's pool. • After several mean-spirited episodes, U-Turn had a heart attack while jogging, wiping out Nancy's debt. • Nancy traded a trunkful of heroin that U-Turn had left in her garage to Guillermo to get U-Turn's second-in command Marvin (Fatso-Fasano) off her back. • Matthew Modine joined the cast as the unscrupulous developer Sullivan Groff. He had sex with Nancy and Celia (separately), inciting a cat-fight between the next-door neighbors. The fire left Groff's Majestic project in embers. • Nancy's olderst son Silas (Hunter Parrish) fell for another new cast member, Tara (Mary-Kate Olsen) - a God-fearing stoner who joined Silas in the family business. In one episode, Silas and Tara smoked a clear joint - a TV first. In another, Silas was seen reading a copy of Pot Culture (by CelebStoner's Steve Bloom). • Agrestic councilman Doug Wilson went to war with Groff over his Majestic development. Mostly, Doug provided comic relief, such as in the final episode when he serenaded townies cooped up in a gym with freestyle songs. He also stole the Majestic lit-up church cross and installed it in the grow room. • Andy Botwin, Nancy's brother-in-law, had a shortlived stint in the Army. Also noted for his comic lines, Andy saw limited action in Season 3. • After her trysts with Groff, Nancy got it on with Conrad Shepard (Romany Malco), which had been building since Season 1. Following U-Turn's death, Nancy, Conrad, Conrad's cousin Helyia James (Tonya Patano), Doug and Celia all joined forces, setting up a grow-op in Celia's new house, purchased for her by Groff. • Celia's estranged husband Dean Hodes (Andy Milder) had a motorcycle accident that left him paralyzed in a wheelchair. In one episode, Andy brought him to a "Murderball" contest that included CelebStoner contributer Jeff Beverly. • When Nancy received a life-insurance check for deceased narc husband Peter Scottson (Martin Donovan), Peter's first wife, Valerie (Brooke Smith) came around asking for her cut. At first, Nancy sympathized with her, but after Valerie got greedy, Nancy paid off a private investigator hired by Valerie, then blew her off. • Nancy's youngest son, Shane (Alexander Gould), went off the deep end, claiming to be in contact with his dead father. • A drug-dealing biker gang attempted to move in on Nancy's business. She agreed to cooperate, but their low-end weed turned off her customers. When Nancy balked, they beat up Silas, forcing her to seek help. Guillermo's solution was to set the fire that ended the season "up in smoke." • Artists who performed the show's theme song "Little Boxes" included Pete Seeger, Michael Franti, the Shins, the Decmeberists, Randy Newman and the Individuals.
