Patriots defensive back and kick returner Willie Andrews was arrested on Feb. 5 at 9:15 am in Lowell, Massachusetts on charges of marijuana possession with intent to distribute and driving an unregistered vehicle.

Acting on a tip of "possible drug activity in a black vehicle," police stopped Andrews' Crowne Victoria SUV at a Mobil station on Middlesex St. They smelled marijuana and proceed to search Andrews and the car, finding bags of marijuana in his crotch area and under the seat. Police also confiscated $6,808.

Andrews pled guiity to a gun charge in 2002 and spent 10 days in a Texas jail.

A back-up player, he was drafted in the seventh round out of Baylor in 2006. Andrews ran back a kickoff 77 yards for a touchdown against Miami on Oct. 22.

The Patriots suffered a surprise defeat at the hands of the New York Giants, who ended their 18-game unbeaten streak with their 17-14 Super Bowl victory. Andrews saw limited special teams action.

He was cut by New England on July 1 after threatening his girlfriend with a gun.
