Kevin Faulk: Patriot Pothead PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 27 February 2008 14:09

On Feb. 22, 2008, New England Patriots' veteran running back Kevin Faulk was nabbed with four blunts entering the Cajundome in Lafayette, Louisiana for Lil Wayne's concert.

Here's what happened:

While heading to one of the dome's suites, Faulk was stopped and searched. "He was cited for simple possession, which is a misdemeanor," Capt. John Babin of the Lafayette Metro Narcotics Task Force stated. "It’s based on an amount possessed for personal use. It wasn't a whole lot, a couple of grams probably. There was no trouble, Kevin was very cooperative."

Babin further explained: "It wasn't a random search - everybody going into the building was searched that night. It's a large venue in town where events are held throughout the year and based on the type of event and whether we would think there would be a narcotics presence we would work it undercover. Kevin just happened to have marijuana."

Faulk was not arrested and received a misdemeanor summons instead. He subsequently pled guilty and was given a five-month suspended sentence, one-year supervised probation, 40 hours of community service (anti-drug lectures for Layfayette students), 20 hours of NFL-approved drug treatment and a $300 fine (plus $231 court costs and $250 for the drug analysis).

A Lafayette native, Faulk starred at LSU in nearby Baton Rouge. He was taken by the Pats in the second round of the 1999 draft. The 13-year pro has New England's record for most receptions by a running back.
