Barack Obama is the first and only politician to be voted Top CelebStoner.

Obama 1980The 44th President (born Aug. 4, 1961) earned the honor on the strength of the following resume:

• In his book, Dreams from My Father (1995), Obama wrote about his high school and college drug use: "Pot had helped, and booze; maybe a little blow when you could afford it."

• In a 2007 interview, Obama stated: "When I was a kid I inhaled frequently. That was the point."

• Speaking to Northwestern University students in 2004, Obama declared: "The War on Drugs has been an utter failure. We need to rethink and decriminalize our marijuana laws."

• In a letter to a constituent in 2006, Obama wrote: "I am aware of the argument that legalizing marijuana would make the drug more 'controlled' or safer, and that it may curb the violence associated with the sale of an illegal substance. I also appreciate that many physicians believe that medicinal marijuana can be helpful to some patients."

• In 2007, Obama told an activist in New Hampshire: "I wound not have the Justice Department prosecuting and raiding medical marijuana users." He has since made numerous statements in favor of medical use.

• In 2008, Obama clarified his position about medical marijuana: "The basic concept that using medical marijuana in the same way, with the same controls as other drugs prescribed by doctors, I think that's entirely appropriate. I would not punish doctors if it's prescribed in a way that is appropriate."

• Since becoming the nation's 44th president in 2009, Obama has lived up to his campaign promise that the DEA would no longer be able to harass and prosecute medical patients and dispensaries.

One word and one name: Appointment, Eric Holder.

I think that says just about everything you need to know about Obama on this issue. He will not speak out, he will not press it. I believe he would sign pro-pot legislation, but it seems to me politics are more important than principles these days.

I vote his Top CelebStoner status to be revoked. (I prefer Johnson to Paul, but since Johnson is already on the list, I would nominate Paul to take Obama's spot on the list. He's at least put forward positive legislation.)

You are all ignorant as hell. Marijuana laws are a state issue, Obama has no control over that. He can say he supports it all he wants, but he can't change it.

Maybe you're all looking at it the wrong way. Maybe he gets home from the Oval Office and puts his feet up and kicks back with a big fat blunt... and just hasn't gotten around to it. Then again, maybe that's the issue: who wants to legislate, or do much of anything, after a big fat blunt?

Why don't you see all he has done? He doesn't have as much power as you think, he's NOT KING!

I'm very disappointed in Obama. He has dropped the ball on the issue of legal use of pot. I think he's happy just being the first black President. He's a failure. Think about all the problems that go away and all the positive economic stimulus if legalization happened. The revenue that would be generated could wipe out the deficit. Not to wipe out the deficit is un-American!

Obama needs to see that the legalization of Marijuana will better the economy, create jobs for many people, and end the prosperity of crime organizations. Marijuana needs to be taxed, regulated with a 21 plus age use(Picture Identification required). Marijuana is far safer than alcohol. Use of Marijuana can vary from smoking, vaporization, consumption (eating) etc..... Marijuana should be smoked in areas that are tolerant such as cerified Coffeeshops and cafes as well as the privacy of one's home or secluded property. Please Mr. Obama Legalize and be the greatest President ever..Let FREEdom ring!!! WE are a Great NATION!!! Legalize now!!! Follow same laws FOR Alcohol!!!Legalize Marijuana now, NOW, now !!!

Why is Obama a CelebStoner? He needs to be taken off this list. When I think of stoners, President Obama never comes to mind. So he smoked when he was young - big deal, who hasn't? If he really smoked as much as they lead us to believe then he would know that our marijuana laws are fucked up

i agree with weed being legal but i know that is not t a top priority to the govt. not the legalization of it anyway the cartels and teen drug use yes this would be a ways to help it but it is a big contraversal issue. dont need to be but is. he said he thought i would not be a good desicion he didnt say no so we still have our foot in door. just be payshent no i cant spell. he is a leader under a lot of pressure. even if he was 100 percent 4 it he would still say the same answer. when congress and him see america wants it they will come around. they have to know we wont give up and will ellect officials who will hear us. they shouldnt just say ok legalize it that woukld be irrisponsable, they need to legalize it from debate. it is a big step for them. yes i do partake and believe in the cause but i do also it needs to be looked at in the whole picture. but in the mean time write your congress men be an activist (non violece) violence will only hurt the cause. and get the word and info out to people write your news papers letter to the editor. we can have a big influence. viva la marijuana! legalize contol tax and regulate, win win

Hey I don't live in the US, but I don't even want to imagine how bad it would have been if you were ruled by President Palin (considering the "vintage" McCain was and the current state of the economy he would have croaked the first month o_O )
so give Obama a break, it is not easy working against years of government stupidity, whether it is the economy, social and health care or the legal stance on MJ.

critique him when he has done his years, I mean you wouldn't critique an artist while he is working on his peace until it is done now would you?!
Love and hugs

You know I too was very happy when Obama has made positive Marijauna. But you maust think about the load this man has to deal with, and to make a major change in policy like Decim, or leaglize would be too much at this time. Its going to take time, and help from everyone!

Heres the deal guys, we sit around and wait for that day when one man makes all our dreams come true. But we cant do that, we all have to do are part. We need to be educating people writting letters to congress and Mr Obama, we have to work in our comunity getting folks to see the truth about Marijuana. This is how we will win our war, by atanding up and fighting. W e have for too long set back and just hopped for the guy to make it all better, well he is here but we cant stop pushing or we will look back in 4-8 years and wonder why we didnt get it done!

We have to do this, its not going to happen on its own.

I'm tempering my expectations somewhat, but I believe that Obama will, at least, divert money away from the expensive (does $80 billion/yr ring a bell?) b/s DEA stings on dispensaries and Mmj users b/s and not intefere w/ what the locals (ie the state of California, in my case) voted on to enact into law. Not a stereotypical or traditional Democratic party position but Obama is more of a pragmatist than an ideologue, as was the case w/ his predecessor who placed his own value judgment/mores above the will of the people. I don't see the anti-marijuana directives coming down that pushed regional DA's to take an anti-marijuana stance and, in turn, direct the DEA and local law enforcement to stick their noses into places where they don't belong. I see the lives of mj growers/users, particularly in the states where Mmj has been legalized, getting better, at first through subtraction and than, later down the road, through new legislation.

The proof is in the pudding. He has since said he would not relegalize Marijuana, period. He is surrounding himself with people who are not exactly friends of the Movement.

I am willing to give him a chance to honor his previous statements, but I am not holding my breath that he will follow through.

I am hearing from many stoners who say that Obama is not a friend to pot heads, that he's been coopted by the Dem mainstream. Give the guy a chance before attacking him. He's nothing like what we've had before. In two years MJ will be off the DEA bullsheet, and Obama will be the reason
