Steph Sherer founded Americans for Safe Access in 2002 as a way to combat the DEA's war on medipot in California and to educate people about the medical uses of marijuana. Based in Oakland, ASA focuses on patients rights, regularly organizing alerts, hearings and protests.

A medical patient herself, Sherer suffers pain, muscle spasms and inflammation associated with torticollis, a neurological movement disorder that causes the head to tilt. It's also known as wry neck.

In her acceptance statement for being voted Top CelebStoner, ASA's executive director humbly writes: "While I am neither a celebrity nor a stoner, I will continue to work with patients across the U.S. to make sure that they receive the treatment they need without fear of legal sanction or the challenges of safe access. I challenge your readers to join me in this important fight by becoming a member of ASA."

ASA boasts 30,000 members, and chapters and affiliates in 40 states.
