'Breaking Bad's Bryan Cranston Takes Emmy PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 22 September 2008 08:58

Bryan Cranston - who plays speed dealer Walt White on AMC's Breaking Bad - was named Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series, Bryan Cranstondefeating Gabriel Byrne, Michael C. Hall, Jon Hamm, Hugh Laurie and James Spader in Emmys competition. Entourage's Jeremy Piven repeated as Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. Unfortunately, Weeds' Mary-Louise Parker lost out to 30 Rock's Tina Fey in the Actress in a Comedy Series category. Bummer!

Other stony Emmy winners included The Daily Show with Jon Stewart for Variety, Musical or Comedy Series and The Colbert Report for Writing for a Variety, Musical or Comedy Program.

On Breaking Bad, Cranston's White is a science teacher who decides to make some extra money cooking up crystal meth. But the mild-mannered White doesn't quite know what he's getting into as he begins to run with the local tweakers.

Cranston accepted the award with his head shaved. ""My character is well into his chemotherapy," he stated about the upcoming second season. "I lost 17 pounds and shaved my head. This is what most actors dream about."
