The man who's portraying legendary British pot smuggler Howard Marks in the upcoming Mr. Nice thinks "marijuana should be legalized."
"A lot of people like dope in Wales and Howard is its champion," says Rhys Ifans. "The reason why he sold is because he thinks, and I agree, that it's a beneficial herb.
"I feel marijuana should be legalized. Not so that people get high all over the place, but so it can be controlled. Drugs have been legal longer than they have been illegal, and it's just hypocrisy to be able to sell alcohol to children while marijuana is illegal."
Ifans has previously appeared in such films as Hannibal Rising (2007), Human Nature (2001) and Notting Hill (1999).
Chloe Sevigny plays Marks' wife Judy in the biopic, directed by Bernard Rose. Mr. Nice is slated for release in February 2010.
