Jags Cut Jones PDF Print E-mail

Cocaine and alcohol don't pay for wide receiver Matt Jones, who was released by Jacksonville after consecutive arrests - the most recent of which for drinking while in a substance-abuse program. He just served nine days in an Arkansas jail.

Matt JonesJones was busted for coke last July when police found him and friends partying in a car in Fayetteville. Despite being suspended for three game, he had his best season for the Jags.

Jones entered a drug court program that required counseling and drug tests. When he returned to Fayetteville after the season, Jones promptly flunked an alcohol screening after admittedly drinking beer at a golf outing.

"This decision is a result of our ongoing player and roster evaluations," says Jags GM Gene Smith. "We expect responsibility and accountability, and those are important qualities as we continue the process of building this team."
