Depressed Corie Blount Scored Pot PDF Print E-mail
Saturday, 04 April 2009 19:31

Former NBA journeyman Corie Blount pled guilty on Apr. 1, 2009 to two felony marijuana possession charges after he was busted with 29 pounds of weed on Dec. 5, 2008 in Hamilton, Ohio.

Police initially tracked an 11-pound package being delivered to his grandmother's house. They found another 17 pounds, three guns and nearly $30,000 at his home.

In exchange for dismissal of a third trafficking charge, Blount forfeited two cars and $34,000 to the Butler County Sheriff's Office.

Blount's lawyer Anthony VanHoy contends that his client was suffering from depression at the time of the arrest and was persuaded by friends to acquire the hefty load of pot.

On May 13, 2009 Blount was sentenced to one year in jail and five years' probation. At the sentencing, Butler County Judge Craig Hedric commented,  “Cheech and Chong would have a hard time smoking that much.”

Drafted in the first round by the Bulls in 1994 after a college career at the University of Cincinnati, the 6-9 Blount averaged 3.6 ppg and 4.2 rpg during 11 years in the NBA with seven teams, including the Lakers.
