Thousands of people converged on Colorado U - Boulder for the administration defying 4/20 Celebration. While organizers say more then 15,000 packed Norlin Quad on April 20 for the Stoner National Holiday, local police pegged the smokey crowd at between 8,000 and 10,000.

Attendees began arriving at 2 pm and by 4 pm the Quad was overflowing. At 4:10, a loud cheer went up and then joints and bowls were lit in unison, creating a massive 4:20 weed cloud. With the mountains in the distance on this picturesque campus, it looked like a forest fire.

"This is an orgy," NORML executive director Allen St. Pierre marveled. "It's totally organic."

There was no stage for speeches or bands - in fact, there were no apparent leaders at all.

But behind the scenes, NORML@CU worked with school officials and local police to make sure the event remained peaceful. Except for several revelers who needed to be talked down from trees, there were no incidents, and no arrests were made or summonses given.

"I'd say there were 17,000 people here," NORML@CU's Andrew Orr estimated. "I think it went well."

Hungry, Orr headed over to College Ave. for a bite. Then, at 7 pm, he rushed back to campus; he had to take an English test.
