Despite a heavy police presence, the Cures Not Wars wing of the 260-city Worldwide Marijuana March made its way to Dag Hammarskjold Plaza on May 2 for New York's annual pro-pot rally. Upwards of 10 arrests were made in the crowd, estimated at 420.
David Peel & Friends
Participants included Yippies Dana Beal, David Peel (above, second from left), Aron Kay, Paul DeRienzo and Kenny Toglia; High Times staffers Danny Danko, Bobby Black (above, second from right) and Rick Cusick; medical-marijuana activists Elvy Musikka and Arlene Williams; and New York NORML's Doug Greene. The Australian duo Kelly & Tara sang "Twenty Years" about Schapelle Corby, who's incarcerated for marijuana possession in Bali.

Missed all my friends in NY this year! Was out in Philly at The Dead shows, but of course marched and spoke in solidarity with the 250 plus cites, right in the city of brotherly love!

Well over 500 marched on South Street in Philly! The weather forecase was not so good, but the rain broke, just for the march and rally.

Thanks Philly NORML and all the graet folks who marched, chanted, screamed and smoked to LEGALIZE!

Thank god people came out for this all over the country. Pot should be legal. Portugal decriminalized all drugs in 2001 and their experience has been positive. Now if you are caught with a 10 day supply of your drug or less you face an administrative court, not a criminal court. We can do that here in the USA. A group of 10,000 very serious policemen, prosecutors, attorneys and citizens have formed a group to legalize ALL drugs, Law Enforcement Against Prohibition (http://leap.cc ) They see what happened when we legalized alcohol in 1932 as a good example of how drug legalization would work. We can't stop drugs. They're sick of chasing drug users and sending innocent people to prison for decades just because they like to get high. This foolish war on drugs has lasted 37 years and cost us over a TRILLION dollars and we are not an inch closer to stopping drugs. How many millions of Americans are we going to lock up in prison for decades? Legalize ALL drugs now. Mark Montgomery This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
