Memphis Grizzly Darius Miles became the first current NBA player to be arrested for marijuana in nearly a year when police found a small bag of pot in his car during a traffic stop in Fairview Heights, Illinois - a St. Louis suburb.
Pulled over for not signaling at 10:30 pm on May 13, 2009, police searched Miles' 1996 Chevy Impala after discovering he was driving with a suspended license. They found less than 2.5 grams of weed. He was charged with misdemeanor marijuana possession and released on $100 bond.
The 6-9 forward grew up in nearby Belleville and was drafted directly out of East St. Louis High School by the Los Angeles Clippers with the third-overall pick in 2000. Miles has since played for Cleveland, Portland and Memphis, averaging 10 ppg and 5 rpg in his six-year career.
Miles was suspended for 10 games this past season for violating the league's anti-drug policy at the end of the 2007-2008 season. He likely failed several drug tests.
The Bulls' Joakim Noah was arrested on May 25, 2008 in Gainesville, Florida for a joint. He paid a $200 fine.
Ex-NBA player Corie Blount was sentenced on May 13, 2009 to one year in jail for possessing 30 pounds of pot.
