'D Weed' Sues Over MJ Allegation PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 07 June 2009 21:25

NBA superstar Dwyane Wade has thrown down a $100 million suit against his former business partner Richard von Houtman. Charged with libel and slander, von Houtman claimed Wade's parties at his Miami condo in 2007 and 2008 included marijuana smoking. Wade and von Houtman started D Wade's Place, a Florida restaurant chain.

Dwyane Wade & Richard von Houtman“They’d have these parties in there two or three times a week,” von Houtman said. “There were always dozens of people in there. Rappers, Dwyane and his entourage, women they’d pick up in clubs.”

At a Chicago charity event in 2007, von Houtman claimed, "Weed is being passed around and Wade takes a hit. In front of everybody."

Von Houtman met Wade in 2006. They agreed to start D Wade's Place, which opened in Fort Lauderdale and Boca Raton, before quickly closing. Wade is being sued for reneging on the investment.

“I think he signed on with us because he was injured and he thought his career was gone," von Houtman added. "Then when he came back stronger, he figured he wouldn’t need us.”

In his suit, Wade says von Houtman sent damaging emails to then Miami Heat coach Pat Riley and players about Wade's alleged marijuana and steroids use.

“It has been difficult to see false allegations, rumors and gossip repeatedly discussed in public about my personal life,” Wade stated. “I had no other choice but to file this action in order to clear my name.”
