Bill Maher, Sarah Silverman and Mary-Louise Parker all received 2009 Emmy nominations. Silverman (The Sarah Silverman Program) and Parker (Weeds) are competing in the same category, Best Actress in a Comedy Series. Real Time with Bill Maher faces off against The Daily Show, The Late Show, The Colbert Report and Saturday Night Live in the Best Variety Series category.

Weeds joins 30 Rock, Family Guy, Flight of the Conchords, The Office, Entourage and How I Met Your Mother as Best Comedy Series noms. Jemaine Clement (Flight of the Conchords) was selected as a Best Actor in a Comedy Series and Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad) as Best Actor in a Drama (he won last year).
