Charles Rogers on Weed: 'I Blew Everyday' PDF Print E-mail

Former Detroit Lions' wide receiver Charles Rogers admits that he was a "regular" marijuana smoker during his injury shortened career. "I blew everyday," he now says. The NFL's second overall draft pick in 2003 developed a painkiller problem after twice breaking his collarbone.

Charles Rogers mug shotCharles RogersRogers was suspended in 2005 for violating the league's substance abuse policy and hasn't played since 2006, when the Lions released the Michigan State grad.

Last year, he was arrested for assault and battery, and in March, after failing a court-ordered drug test (for Vicodin), spent a month in jail.

Rogers tells ESPN: "I was just really smokin'. When I jumped onto that pill game - prescription medicine - that was after my second break."

He adds: "But you can't smoke in the league. I was wrong."
