Stephon Marbury: 'I Smoke Marijuana' PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 18 August 2009 17:30

Currently unsigned former NBA All-Star Stephon Marbury reveals, "I smoke weed occasionally, but guess what? I'm not under contract and I'm not playing basketball. Stephon MarburyI'm not on a team. I can do whatever I want to do. I'm a grown man."

In the video clip below, Marbury also says: "I smoke marijuana. I can relate... Do you know you can buy marijuana inside a store in L.A.? They give marijuana to cancer patients and then they tell kids they can't smoke marijuana."

Marbury played for the Celtics last season after being released by the Knicks. The 6-2 guard has averaged 19.3 ppg in his 13-year NBA career with Minnesota, New Jersey, Phoenix, New York and Boston. He was named to the All-NBA Third Team in 2000 and 2003 and was picked for the All-Star Game in 2001 and 2003. Marbury also was a member of Team USA, which won the bronze medal at the 2004 Olympics.

Marbury's years with the Knicks were marred by controversy and disputes which led to his release. Unless he's signed by a team for the upcoming 2009-2010 season, Marbury will be able to smoke pot without worrying about failing a league drug test and perhaps even receive a doctor's recommendation, which would allow him to purchase marijuana in one of California's many medipot shops.

would the nba be under any obligation
(if he were to obtain the permit and only use in that state) to not punish him for failing or being conclusively positive in the case of any actual testing for a team?

To smoke, or not to smoke. It should be a personal choice. If it were legal, we might be more successful in keeping it away from kids.
