Asked about legalizing marijuana on Wednesday night's Jay Leno Show, gay comic Wanda Sykes said, "That's nuts. I'm against it. You ever know a pot smoker that keeps a to-do list? You're not going to improve the economy or productivity."

And what exactly will? "If Schwarzenegger wants to spark productivity and make some money, cocaine baby," Sykes joked. "You'll have people working 48 hour shifts. It will be good for the environment - people will be running to work."

Imagine if another comedian said they were opposed to gay marriage, "it's nuts - I'm against it." Surely Sykes, whose wife Alex recently had twin girls, wouldn't think that's so funny.

Sykes plays Barb on The New Adventures of Old Christine, appeared on Curb Your Enthusiasm and The Chris Rock Show. and portrayed hooker Biggie Shorty in Pootie Tang.

Hey, stoners - until she retracts her statement about marijuana, boycott Wanda Sykes!

So, Ms. Sykes is all for the rights of gay people, but not those suffering and in need of relief? It's OK for them to be arrested because they choose to use an herb over opiates or other synthetic meds?
You were right on in your comment. If someone were to say that homosexuals are "nuts", then there would have been quite the uproar.
She's a joke. I'll go along with the boycott.

I think you are right on in criticizing Ms. Sykes. She believes in the rights of gay people, but not those suffering and in need of relief? Don't let the other posters get to you, you had a very good point. People would have reacted a whole lot differently if she would have said gay people are "nuts".
I'm totally offended by her remark, and will not be watching her anymore, in anything. I used to think she was funny; now I think she is just a joke.

I'm sorry to have offended people but I was only quoting Sykes who mentioned her wife (Alex) during the Leno interview. I will remove the quote marks. The point remains that Sykes was out of line with her pot comment (even if it was a joke). I doubt she would appreciate jokes being made about gay marriage like she did about marijuana legalization.

The war against the war on drugs isn't going to be won by boycotting random people who disagree. It will be won by getting off your ass and doing something to pass legislation.

Second of all, based on the context, she may have just been setting up her own joke. Not everyone supports legalization publicly!
