Jack Herer Speaks! PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 14 October 2009 16:33

One month after suffering a heart attack, Jack Herer is convalescing at a nursing home in Eugene, Oregon. "Dad said 'Godammit,'" his son Mark reports. "It's a good sign. He's heading in the right direction."

Jack HererHerer was stricken on Sept. 12 at the Portland Hempstalk. He went without oxygen for 20 minutes while awaiting emergency treatment and, as a result, has had little brain activity.

Herer was removed from intensive care and transferred from the Legacy Emmanuel Medical Center in Portland to a care facility in Eugene.

"It will be a long recovery," predicts Mark Herer, who says well wishers should send cards to:

Get Well Jack
c/o The Third Eye
3950 SE Hawthorne Blvd.
Portland, OR 97214

Longtime marijuana activist Herer is the author of The Emperor Wears No Clothes.

Cannabis' neuro-protective properties have been known for years. Perhaps those properties worked to Jack's benefit, given the oxygen deprivation he suffered.

Best wishes for a good recovery.

Wooohoooo! When I saw Jack a week and a half ago, he was communicating with his eyes and facial expressions. He tried to talk to a friend, Joy Graves, and I knew that speaking was the next thing we could count on for Jack to do. Way to go, Jack!

Very sad to hear. My hope goes out for his recovery.
