Thursday, 29 October 2009 05:14

It took eight years for Michael Pollan's Botany of Desire to be adapted for television, and it was well worth the wait. Part  3 of the PBS special focused on an "incredibly valuable and interesting plant called cannabis."

Botany of DesirePollan traced marijuana's modern journey from Mexico to the U.S. to indoor cultivation to hybridization to Amsterdam with stopped to explain the scientific discoveries of THC and cannabis receptors. "We wouldn't be the same if it were not for cannabis," he concluded.

Talking heads included Andrew Weil, Raphael Mechoulam, Allyn Howlett, Mark Kleinman, David Lenson, Roger Nicoll and Tim A'Court. The segment, "Cannabis Intoxication," was narrated by Frances McDormand.

Why can't people realize pot was the forerunner of aspirin? I am not a user. However i can see its many attributes. Pain killer, oil from seed, Cattle feed, clothing from its fiber, cellulos for fuel manufacture (e-85). I believe the list is endless for its uses. We need to get back closer to the earth which provides for us and start respecting it, not raping it.
