Monday, 02 November 2009 21:47

MaineMaine voters have amended their 10-year-old medical-marijuana law "to allow the treatment of more conditions and to create a regulated system of distribution," meaning non-profit dispensaries. Currently, Maine patients can either grow their own or buy pot on the black market. Question 5 passed with 61% of the vote. Read the amended bill here

In Breckenridge, Colorado, Measure 2F was approved by a 73% margin. It legalizes the possession of up to one ounce of marijuana, and decriminalizes the sale and possession of paraphernalia.

How is a margin of 1% relevant? It's completely legalized and you worry about it being a bad thing? Are you a judge? How does this even affect you in a negative way.

I thought it was just 72%? Anyway, don’t you think this law will bring harm to the people in Breckenridge? I guess this won’t do so much, but it’s the start. More people spend time in jail for pot than any other drug, and you can get more time for pot than rape or murder. We spend BILLIONS prosecuting and jailing people for grass – that's a waste. If states were to follow the example of Breckenridge, it might mean debt relief for the justice system.
