In 2007, Rep. Barney Frank's boyfriend James Ready was busted for growing marijuana outside his house in Ogunquit, Maine. Charged with possession and cultivation, and use of paraphernalia, Ready paid a fine.

In an interview with Fox, Frank says he was "surprised and disappointed" with Ready. "I do not smoke marijuana," Frank stated. "I've never smoked marijuana. I don't know what the plants look like. I couldn't identify most plants."

Frank's Personal Use of Marijuana by Responsible Adults Act of 2009 would decriminalize the possession of nearly a quarter pound of pot (100 grams). "I don't think it is the government's business to tell you how to spend your leisure time," Frank has said about the bill, which was originally proposed in 2008.
