Defensive lineman Jonathan Babineaux was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute during a traffic stop in suburban Atlanta. Police pulled over Babineaux's Escalade EXT on 1-85 in Buford on Dec. 10 at 10:45 pm.

After smelling marijuana, a search produced three bags, containing 41 grams of weed. Babineaux was also cited for not having a tag light, windows tinted too much, driving without a license and an expired registration. He was taken to Gwinnett County Jail and released on $8,300 bond several hours later.

According to the police report, earlier in the evening Babineaux picked up his friend Aaron Robinson at the Atlanta Airport and then drove directly to a townhouse where Robinson purchased three-quarters of an ounce for $350 (two quarters and a half). Robinson rolled a blunt and they smoked it in the car before police stopped the '05 Escalade near Hamilton Mill Rd. because of the missing tag light and heavily tinted windows. After Babineaus denied there was marijuana in the car, a K-9 dog decided otherwise. Police found the weed in Robinson's knapsack and arrested both men (Robinson was hit with a felony charge of intent to distribute).

Update: Babineaux pled no contest to three misdemeanors on July 20. He was sentenced to one year's probation and fined $1,500.

Babineaux was also arrested in 2007 on an animal cruelty charge that was dropped. He was accused of killing his girlfriend's pit bull.

The 296-pound lineman was drafted by the Falcons in the second round of the 2005 draft out of the University of Iowa.
