Friday, 18 December 2009 08:53

Once called a "one-man crime wave" by a judge, fallen football star Chris Henry was arrested five times during a span of 28 months between 2005 and 2008. The first of those arrests was for marijuana.

Chris HenryOn Dec. 15, 2005, police pulled over a car driven by the Cincinnati Bengals' then-rookie wide receiver for speeding in Covington, Kentucky. A search produced a small amount of pot. Henry was arrested on a misdemeanor possession charge. On Mar. 21, 2006, he pled guilty and paid a $250 fine. The speeding ticket was dismissed.

"I see that I am responsible to my team and my coach and to all Bengals fans to be completely drug-free," Henry stated. "To all of them, I can only say that I'm sorry."

Henry died after having a bizarre confrontation with his fiance in Charlotte, North Carolina on Dec. 16.

Although people may think that the Drug War targets drug smugglers and kingpins, in 2008, 49.8 percent of the 1,702,537 total arrests for drug abuse violations were for marijuana. Of those, 754,224 people were arrested for marijuana possession alone. It is with great amazement and bewilderment that 'anti-drug' bureaucrats and so-called 'anti-drug' groups insist on spreading the 'Big Lie' that "no one in the U.S. is arrested on marijuana charges.
