They may not quite be doing it for themselves, but the sisters of the marijuana movement are joining together under the NORML banner to express their collective contempt for pot prohibition. Most interesting is their stance against "sexual exploitation and objectification of women in pot-culture and business marketing."
NORML's Sabrina Fendrick tells CelebStoner what the NORML Women's Alliance precisely means by Position #5 in their Mission Statement:
"This is directed at all the women who have felt alienated and left out of the marijuana law reform movement because the practice of several high-profile advertisers in the cannabis culture industry is to use pictures of naked or scantily clad women to sell their 'product.' These ads send the message that a woman's place in pot culture is for the viewing pleasure of heterosexual men. These pictures are not only degrading, they seriously hurt any attempt to legitimize this movement within mainstream America."
Fendrick is clearly referring to companies like Legal Buds (above), who advertise in magazines and websites like High Times.
Executive director Allen St. Pierre however, adds: "It is a general statement directed at no specific commercial entities."
The Alliance consists of "prominent, educated, successful, geographically diverse, high-profile professional women," including Ann Druyan, Debby Goldsberry, Madeline Martinez, Barbara Ehrenreich, Jessica Corry and Cheryl Shumnan. .

I hate to see my sacrament treated as decadence, just as I hate to see sex treated as a commodity instead of something sacred.
This all started when the Greek general Alchibiades stole the sacrament Kykeon from the temple of the Eleusinian mysteries (which worshipped the grain goddess Demeter) and started staging psychedelic orgies. It's time to free the weed from male exploitation!
