Memphis rocker Jay Reatard died of unknown causes on Jan. 13. He was 29. Reatard (nee Jimmy Lee Lindsay Jr.) had a rep for mixing it up with fans and storming off the stage in the middle of shows. In a 2008 interview, he talked about doing psychedelics, coke and ice.



"I was kinda being an asshole myself and not really getting along with people and kinda forcing me into, what am I gonna do? Maybe I'll skateboard. So I spent a ton of money, I got a nice skateboard and I realized those dudes were just jocks too. So I traded it and got a guitar and just hung out by myself. Just being a loner and not having anything else to do pretty much. When I was kid the Ramones really inspired me. That's why I don't talk on stage or take any breaks between songs.

"I'm not a very psychedelic dude. I've been taking hallucinogenics since I was 17. I'm way too fuckin' neurotic. I'd be like standing in front of a mirror cussing myself out for hours. It's not fun. I don't need to expand my mind, I need to shrink it.

"When I was 18 I did ice - I didn't know what it was. I just broke it up and snorted it up like it's coke. I did like a gram of it. It was the end of a tour. I had to take a 32-hour Greyhound bus ride to Memphis. I was up for two days and 32 hours in the Greyhound and I get home and I find my best friend naked in bed with my girlfriend. A big fight happened. Then I took a bunch of No-Doz and freaked out."
