Cheech & Chong Light Up Boulder PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 17 January 2010 20:15

Review by Andrew Orr

Legendary stoner duo Cheech & Chong had fans at Boulder's sold out and sweet-smelling Mackey Auditorium buckled over with laughter from start to finish on Jan. 16, the opening night of their Get It Legal tour.

The show starts with a hilarious set from Shelby Chong (Tommy's wife), who leaves nothing untouched from acid trip shoplifting to aged wine jokes. She packs a sexy comedy punch.

Cheech & Chong, AndrewOrrCheech & Chong bring a new edge to some of their older bits, such as the rarely performed "Dave's Not Here," which opens the show. Tommy Chong constantly takes stabs at the federal government for marijuana prohibition and of course sending harmless individuals to jail for bongs.

The Get It Legal tour is a throwback to classic Cheech and Chong, with Basketball Jones and Blind Melon Chitlin making incredibly memorable appearances.

Cheech Marin delivers a hilarious "Born in East L.A." rendition complete with Chong strumming along on guitar slightly dazed but clearly loving the moment.                                                                          Cheech & Chong & Andrew Orr (right)

Cheech & Chong are a must-see for every stoner, young or old. Don’t miss this tour!

I saw them last year during their Light up America reunion tour & swore I wouldn't pay to see them again, unless they write some new stuff. Ya, it's cool to see the old stuff live, but only once.

Post-DC show, April 10: Well, sorry to report it hasn't gotten any better since Denver. The opening act with Shelby Chong was horrible. Then came a contrived 15 minute psuedo-interview of Cheech & Chong with Shelby as the moderator (along with pre-recorded rimshots for the infrequent jokes). A few highlights, but overall about $50 sort of the $70 worth of comedy each patron expected. My advice: get together with a buddy, pool your $140, buy 4 classic Cheech & Chong albums and spend the other $100 on an herbal remedy. Find yourself someone's basement and REALLY LAUGH.

I agree with Rockpile Ranter. I saw the show too, and in my opinion it was extremely disappointing. Shelby had to apoligize 2-3 times saying that it's really the 1st show in 30 years. They were trying to work things out, but it really didn't come together well.

Were you even at the same show I was. Cops were everywhere, couldn't even toke up in the balcony cops were cracking down on everyone. Shelby's stand up sucked, she asked us how Christamas was twice. Chong forgot his lines several times, no stage set whatsoever. I saw them last year in Denver and it was amazing. Never attend a show at Macky Theater in Denver. First show in 25 years I couldnt' smoke a doobie at and it was Cheech and Chong..Go figure...Dude I love Cheech and Chong and this show was strait up pitiful. You sir must have gotten free tickets...
