Marijuana Musher Mackey Wins Iditarod PDF Print E-mail
Saturday, 27 February 2010 20:53

Alaska's greatest dog-sled racer Lance Mackey legally smokes marijuana for medicinal purposes, yet he was still arrested for possessing pot at the Anchorage Airport on Jan. 13, 2010

Lance MackeyDuring a security check, officials found eight grams of marijuana in Mackey's bag. However, because his medical card had expired, Mackey was charged with a minor misdemeanor - sixth-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance. Alaska is one of 16 states that has legalized the use of medical marijuana.

Mackey, who's battled throat cancer, won the Iditarod four consective times from 2007 to 2010.

Iditarod authorities drug tested the sledders for the first time after the 2010 race. Mackey has admitted to smoking during the 10-day, 1,100-mile competition. But not this time. "I don't think it's going to show a damn thing," he predicted.

"It's a dog race, not a human race," he says. "It isn't the reason I've won three years in a row."

Adding to Mackey's accomplishments, he was recently inducted into the Alaska Sports Hall of Fame.

I expect Mr. Mackey will get the charges dropped with a written testimony from his primary physician. Want to know about the marijuana laws? Go to The Weed Blog

Drug testing just turns people to use harder drugs like alcohol, meth, opiates and cocaine - all drugs that are out of the system with in 3 - 5 days.

And what is weed? Is it some de-motivational drug that turns us into losers or a performance-enhancing drug that could make us win 8 gold medals for swimming and place first 3 times in a row in racing?

Whatever it is, it certainly isn't worth making taxpayers pay even more to drug test society. We went from spending a few million fighting marijuana in the '80s to spending $30 billion in 2007. The drug war nonsense isn't effective at all if you look at the stats. A total waste of money and life.

The DEA, which Nixon created, is just one example of big government sticking the nose in peoples' personal lives. A total violation of the Constitution.
