Nearly 40 years after his first nomination, Hollyweed legend Jeff Bridges finally took home an Oscar on Mar. 7, 2010 for his powerful portrayal of broken-down country singer Bad Blake in Crazy Heart.
The fifth time was a charm for Bridges, who's beloved among other things for his Dude character in The Big Lebowski, earning him Top CelebStoner status. In his acceptance speech, Bridges called acting "groovy" and repeatedly used the word "man."
In other Oscar news, The Hurt Locker upset Avatar in the Best Picture and Director categories. It was a surprise victory, comparable to 2006, when Crash split Best Picture and Director with Brokeback Mountain.
The Hurt Locker director Katherine Bigelow, who was once married to Avatar director James Cameron, is the first woman to ever win a Best Director Oscar.
Christoph Waltz (Inglourious Basterds) beat Woody Harrelson (The Messenger) for Best Supporting Actor. Harrelson, who received the same award at the Independent Spirit Awards, wore a black hemp suit (at left, with wife Laura Louie). In the monologue, Alec Baldwin joked to Steve Martin about Harrelson, "He's so high."
