Stoner Sprinter Ivory Williams Suspended PDF Print E-mail
Saturday, 13 March 2010 23:46

Stripped of his 60-meter victory at the U.S. Indoor Track & Field Championships for testing positive for pot, Ivory Williams joins fellow star athletes Michael Phelps, Tim Lincecum, Santonio Holmes, Josh Howard and Lance Mackey: all have either been busted, failed a drug test, admitted personal use of marijuana or been caught red-handed smoking a bong.

Ivory WilliamsWilliams' personal-best 6.49 seconds in the 60 meters on Feb. 28 at the U.S. Championships in Albuquerque was disqualified after the U.S. Doping Agency found Carboxy THC, a marijuana metabolite, in his urine sample.

USA Track and Field declared Williams ineligible for three months as of Mar. 10, barring him from competing as planned at this weekend's IAFF World Indoor Championship in Doha, Quatar, where Dwain Chambers won the 60 meters with a 6.48 time.

The U.S. Doping Agency determined there was Carboxy THC, a marijuana metabolite, in Williams' urine sample and USA Track and Field declared him ineligible for three months as of Mar. 10.

"It is unfortunate," says Williams' manager Ray Flynn. "It was poor judgment and he acknowledges that and to my knowledge has accepted the A sample (as positive)."

The Texas-born Williams also races in the 100, 200 and 400 meters. He won the World Junior Championships in 2002 and 2004.
