'Parks and Recreation' Goes to Pot PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 26 March 2010 13:44

The Parents Television Council couldn't have been too happy about the Mar. 25 episode ("Summer Catalog") of Parks and Recreation, in which a former Pawnee Parks Department director waxes eloquently about this country's cannabis laws.

Michael GrossDuring a get-together with former directors arranged by Leslie (Amy Poehler), current director Ron (Nick Offerman) snidely says about his predecessor, Michael (Family Ties' Michael Gross): "He smoked pot in the office and in all the parks constantly."

Michael (left) admits that he's on probation from a pot bust.

"In fairness to me, it was a different time," he says. "It was the early '90s. But also, it's ridiculous that marijuana is illegal. Thomas Jefferson grew hemp. Alcohol is illegal but pot isn't? Let's just relax, smoke another jay and all calm down. By the way, it's ridiculous that pot is illegal. It grows in the ground. I've planted marijuana in community gardens all over the city and it hasn't hurt anyone."
