Arrested for the seventh time on Mar. 24, Dwight Gooden may be heading back to jail. He was charged with eight counts after leaving the scene of an accident in Franklin Lakes, New Jersey. Gooden's five-year-old Dylan was in the car.
The former fireballer was charged with the following: Under the Influence of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, Driving While Under the Influence of Drugs, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, DWI with a Child Passenger, Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Accident, Reckless Driving, Failure to Keep Right, Failure to Notify Change of Address Regarding Driver’s License.
Gooden spent six months in jail (left) in 2006 after several arrests in Tampa. Here's his rap sheet:
1986 - arrested in Tampa - fighting with police 1987 - tested positive for cocaine 1994 - tested positive for cocaine twice, suspended each time 1995 - suspended for entire season 2002 - arrested in Tampa - DWI, open container; pled guilty to reckless driving 2003 - arrested in Tampa - suspended license 2005 - arrested in Tampa twice - battery (punched girlfriend), resisting arrest 2006 - arrested in Tanpa - probation violation; served 6-1/2 months in jail 2010 - arrested in New Jersey - DUI, seven more charges
During his career from 1984 to 2000, Gooden compiled a 194-112 record. He was Rookie of the Year with the Mets in 1984 and helped lead them to the World Championship in 1986. After his suspension, Gooden signed with the Yankess. In a magical year, he pitched a no-hitter and won another World Series.
But Gooden, who was ticketed for the Hall of Fame, never lived up to his potential, largely because of his appetite for alcohol and cocaine.
