Peter Lewis Out as Head of MPP PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 16 June 2010 17:32

As reported by CelebStoner on May 25, Peter Lewis resigned as chairman of the board of the Marijuana Policy Project and pulled his funding of the organization in the wake of a sex scandal involving executive director Rob Kampia.

Peter Lewis"Our revenues now come from 9,000 members rather than huge checks from a few people," Kampia told High Times.

The MPP staff has been gutted by numerous layoffs and buyouts, including chief of staff Alison Green, who resigned last week.

In an office memo acquired by CelebStoner, Green wrote: "I want to let you know that I've made the difficult decision to move on from MPP. I've loved working at MPP. It's a great organization, and I will miss it. However, I've had a long-time interest in doing management consulting and have been doing it on the side as a hobby for a while now. It's been my dream to do that full-time, and I'm going to give it a shot."

As CelebStoner also reported, Lewis has convened a "blue-ribbon" panel of marijuana reform experts, including former Nebraska Gov. Bob Kerrey, former ACLU head Ira Glasser and Americans for Safe Access executive director Steph Sherer.

Kampia resumed his MPP duties in April after a three-month suspension.

My take on Peter Lewis including Ira Glasser in drug policy reform.
