Stoner starlet Paris Hilton was arrested along with her friend, former Playboy model Jennifer Rovero, in South Africa after the Brazil-Netherlands match on July 2. It appears that Rovero took the rap as the charge against Hilton was dropped.

"The incident was a complete misunderstanding," Hilton's publicist stated. "It was actually another person in the group who did it."

Hilton and Rovero (right) were caught smoking pot during the game, which Holland won 2-1, at Nelson Mandela Stadium in Port Elizabeth.

Here's what happened, according to the Daily Mail:

"Hilton was flown with (Leonardo) DiCaprio from London to Johannesburg by a Malaysian millionaire so they could take in the World Cup before a safari.

"Police had allegedly spotted cannabis being smoked in Hilton’s group at the match and warned them.

"The source added: ‘They quickly mounted an operation and got undercover officers to follow them to a bus that was waiting to take them out of the complex.’

"The two girls were followed by undercover police after the Brazil vs. Holland game, which they attended with DiCaprio.

"Officers boarded their luxury coach and unleashed sniffer dogs, which went straight to them.

"They were arrested and fingerprinted at a police station close to the Nelson Mandela Bay stadium and, after spending four hours in a ‘filthy’ cell, appeared before a special World Cup court.

"During the hearing, Hilton was told: ‘The charges have been withdrawn by the state. Please step down.’

"In mitigation for Rovero, 31, who was working as a photographer at the World Cup, (Hilton's lawyer) Terry Proce told the court that possession of cannabis was not an offense where she came from. It was not clear if he was referring to her home state of Texas or her current home in New York.

"Magistrate Xolile Dlulisa said he had considered various options but thought a fine and deportation order most appropriate.

"He agreed with Price that it was ‘a trivial offence’ but added that he hoped it would teach Rovero a lesson and send a message to others to respect the laws of the country.

"An official from South Africa’s Home Affairs Department told the court he was applying for Ms Rov­ero’s immediate deportation.

"But at a further hearing yesterday morning, Price persuaded Department officials that she should be given 14 days’ grace, and said she would also be appealing against the decision.

"He told The Mail on Sunday later: ‘Considering their ordeal, which involved sitting in a filthy cell for hours on end and facing possible criminal records, both Paris and Jennifer were model clients.

"'They remained calm and good-humoured throughout and were polite and friendly. I was very impressed with Paris. She wasn’t at all what I expected. I found her intelligent and articulate, a charming young woman.’

"He said Hilton and Rovero finally left the court building at 1:30 am Saturday and were phoning around for accommodation.

"‘They had planned to go straight to the airport where Paris had her private jet waiting,’ he said. ‘Not many of my clients have these problems.’

"The two finally took off yesterday morning for Cape Town to watch Germany beat Argentina 4-0 in the quarter-final match before heading out to the bush on safari.

"There is no suggestion DiCaprio was involved in any wrongdoing and after the Brazil game he returned to his hotel with friends."

"I was not charged or arrested because I didn't do anything," Hilton tweeted.

Rovero was the Playmate of the Month in July 1999 and featured on the cover in the October 1999 issue. She's dated Limp Bizkit's Fred Durst, lives in New York and works as a freelance photographer.
