R.I.IP.: 'Herbman' Sugar Minott PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 12 July 2010 21:48

Known as "The Godfather of Dancehall," Sugar Minott suffered a fatal heart attack on July 10 in Jamaica. Among his many hits was the ganja-classic, "Herbsman Hustling." WATCH BELOW

Sugar Minott Herbman"Sugar had a heart condition and it was about a year and a half ago that he got the first scare," an associate reports. "He was in Canada at the time and I was with him. But as soon as the flutters subsided, Sugar was back to being his old self."

The singer, who was born Lincoln Barrington Minott on May 25, 1956, didn't not survive this latest scare. He died at the University Hospital of the West Indies in St. Andrew.

Minott was the first to sing over DJ tracks rather than play with a live band, thus earning him the Dancehall King moniker. He recorded more than 60 albums, which included such hit as "Mr. DC," "House Is Not a Home," "No Vacancy," "Good Thing Going," "Never Gonna Give Up Jah" and 1984's "Herbman Hustling" (also featured on Big Blunts: 12 Smokin' Reggae Hits).
