Charged with DUI and marijuana possession on Aug. 11, 2011 in connection with his car accident on July 4 in London, singer George Michael received a stiff two-month sentence on Sept. 14 and was taken to jail. Michael also was banned from driving for five years and fined $1,930. He was released on Oct. 11.

On Aug. 24, Michael pled guilty to the charge. He explained on his website: "On the day after the incident I checked in to a clinic for a 14-day detox program here in London, which has been followed by ongoing outpatient drug counselling several times a week. Personal problems which I had tried to deal with myself had clearly got the better of me, and I am sorry that my pride has prevented me from seeking help before now."

Previously, Michael said about marijuana:

"This stuff keeps me sane and happy. I couldn't write without it. It's a great drug. It's very good for creative people.There's not another drug in life that I'm glad I took but grass. I think my life might be somewhere else if I'd chosen another avenue. If I drank as much as I smoked, my god, I would be like Keith Richards."
