Add another page to T.I.'s long rap sheet. The Atlanta-based hip-hop star was arrested in Los Angeles on Sept. 1, 2010 with his wife Tameka "Tiny" Cottle when police smelled marijuana in their car during a traffic stop. Both were charged with suspicion of possessing drugs (Ecstasy).
T.I. spent 10 months in jail and a halfway house from May 2009 to this past March on a federal weapons conviction. He's currently on probation. Updates: U.S. District Court Judge Charles Parnell ordered T.I. back to jail for 11 months on Oct. 15. "Now I am down to the disease of addiction," said T.I., who failed a drug test after the arrest. "I need help. For me, my mother my kids. I need the court to give me mercy. Judge, don't send me back to prison." On Oct. 25, the drug charge against T.I. was dismissed. He's currently at the Forrest City Federal Correctioal Complex in Arkansas. On Jan. 6, 2011, the charge against Cottle was dismissed after she completed a drug diversion program. On Oct. 13. 2007, T.I. was charged with buying automatic weapons (via his bodyguard, who turned T.I. in) and possession of a cache of weapons at his home. A convicted felon due to drug charges and probation violations dating back to 1996, T.I.was not allowed to possess or own any weapons. T.I. started selling drugs (coke and crack) at 14 and has rapped about this lifestyle on "Dope Boyz" (2001) and "Rubber Band Man" on the album Trap Musik (2003). "Trap" is a Southern term for a location where drugs are sold. "The drug dealers I knew in my trap, and in the traps I have been in," T.I. once explained, "weren't just selling dope, they were also making sure that nobody else who wasn't from here wasn't coming in and messing up our neighborhood. It's stuff that people never touch on."
