2010 Champions: Wall Street Journal PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 13 September 2010 01:50

Perennial rivals Wall St. Journal and High Times faced on Sept. 12 in the Media Softball Playoffs final. The Journals came back from a 2-1 deficit to win 8-6 and hold onto the NYMSL title.
WSJBoth teams took their semifinals contests (WSJ 21, DC Comics 5; HT 10, WNYC 5), setting the stage for the first championship game ever between WSJ and HT.

In the 2007 and 2008 semis, HT beat WSJ and went into the 2010 playoffs at the top of the NYMSL with an 8-2 record (WSJ was 6-2).

The last five games between the teams dating back to 2008 were decided by two runs or less and Sunday's contest was no different.

With the score 2-1 in the fourth inning, WSJ scored four runs on two-RBI doubles by shortstop Eddie Freel and pitcher Russ Adams. HT tied the score with two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth, but WSJ pulled ahead for good with three more runs, starting with Freel's home run, in the sixth. HT added a run in the sixth but failed to score in the seventh.
