Sierra Nevada Opposes Donation to No on Prop 19 PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 21 September 2010 03:24

We've always liked Sierra Nevada beer and now have an even better reason to: The Chico, California brewery has condemned the $10,000 contribution given to the No on Prop 19 campaign by the California Beer and Beverage Distributors, stating: "The CBBD does not represent Sierra Nevada’s political interests in any way, and does not represent the brewery’s stance on the issue."Sierra Nevada

Preferring to remain publicly neutral on Prop 19, the beer company was incensed by the CBBD's unilateral decision to fund the campaign to defeat Prop 19, which would legalize marijuana if passed by California voters on Nov. 2.

"A beer industry group surprised us by linking our name in with their opposition," Sierra Nevada maintained in a statement published by an industry website. "We had no idea it was happening and we disagree with their position... The CBBD is an industry group that represents the interests of beer distributors and members. Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. and many other independent craft brewers are associate members of the CBBD.

"Although we are members of this organization, we were neither consulted - nor informed of - their decision to take a stand against California Proposition 19. Sierra Nevada’s role as an associate member grants no access or influence on the political agendas of the CBBD, and we had no knowledge of the organization’s intention to fight this ballot proposition... We’ve requested the CBBD to remove our name from their list of members, and also to disassociate the brewery from this and any future political actions... We regret any implied association with this action by the CBBD, and maintain our independence and neutrality regarding matters of politics."

Last week, CelebStoner reported that $81,000 has been contributed to No on Prop 19 as of Sept. 9 - $56,000 from police associations. On Sept. 20, the California Correctional Supervisors donated $7,500, making a grand total of $88,5000 so far - $63,500 from police associations.

Sierra Nevada is celebrating its 30th anniversary. Support the brewery known for Pale Ale and seasonal brands.

As far as prohibition is concerned, history is repeating itself. Some people just are to stupid to learn from it. Prohibition equals huge profits, whiich equals violence when you try to take the cartels (same as gangsters with alcohol prohibition) profits. 60% of cartel's profits are from marijuana. Take that away with legalization. That would be quite a blow to their bottom line. LEGALIZE NOW !!!! Go California !!!! Pass Prop. 19.

Sierra Nevada tests employees for cannabis use? I find that hard to believe, but I will ask around and if that's true, they will not get my business anymore. Ever.

"Tonight, I will be drinking a toast to Proposition 19 with a glass of Sierra Nevada. I trust you'll all be doing the same. If you don't drink, then please, at least, buy one for your neighbor." Cheers to that! Party on my friend.

Tonight, I will be drinking a toast to Proposition 19 with a glass of Sierra Nevada. I trust you'll all be doing the same. If you don't drink, then please, at least, buy one for your neighbor.

Advocating a continued increase in mayhem & tyranny solely for the purpose of financial gain, like the prison guard's union, the DEA, or the alcohol industry, is both despicable and unconscionable.

May I ask you all to please consider the following very carefully: It wasn't alcohol that caused the surge in crime and homicide during alcohol prohibition in the 1920s, it was the prohibition of alcohol. That's why many of us find it hard to believe that the same thing is not happening now. We clearly have a prohibition fueled violent crime problem. A huge number of these violent crimes are perpetrated by criminal syndicates and gangs who use the proceeds from the sales of illegal substances to further even more of their criminal activities.

The second biggest business during prohibition in Detroit was liquor at $215 million a year and employing about 50,000 people. Authorities were not only helpless to stop it, many were part of the problem. During one raid the state police arrested Detroit Mayor John Smith, Michigan Congressman Robert Clancy and Sheriff Edward Stein.

The Mexican cartels are ready to show that when it comes to business they also like to be nonpartisan. They will buy out or threaten politicians of any party, make deals with whoever can benefit them, and kill those who are brave or foolish enough to get in their way.

If you support prohibition you've helped create the prison-for-profit synergy with drug lords.

If you support prohibition you've helped remove many important civil liberties from those citizens you falsely claim to represent.

If you support prohibition you've helped put previously unknown and contaminated drugs on the streets.

If you support prohibition you've helped to escalate murder, theft, muggings and burglaries.

If you support prohibition you've helped evolve local gangs into transnational enterprises with intricate power structures that reach into every corner of society, controlling vast swaths of territory with significant social and military resources at their disposal.

Prohibition is nothing less than a grotesque dystopian nightmare. We have to regulate and we have to do it now!

The beer companies can just come out with THC infused brews. No biggy for them, I don't see the need to lobby against anything.
