Monday, 04 October 2010 09:46

SF GiantsReigning National League Cy Young Award winner Tim Lincecum, who was arrested for marijuana possession last year, pitched the Giants to a 4-3 victory in the opening game of the NLCS against the Phillies on Oct. 16. In the NLDS vs. the Braves, the lanky righthander struck out 14 batters and allowed just two hits on Oct. 7.

Lincecum lost to Roy Halladay in Game 5 on Oct. 21. The Giants won Game 6 to advance to the World Series.

San Francisco won the NL West with a 92-70 record and made the playoffs for the first time since 2003.

The Giants have the best team ERA (3.36) in and starting rotation (Lincecum, Matt Cain, Jonathan Sanchez and Barry Zito) in baseball. 1B Aubrey Huff led the team with 26 homer runs and catcher Buster Posey is a Rookie of the Year candidate. Other Giants hitters to watch: 3B Pablo Sandoval, OF Cody Ross and SS Juan Uribe. Wilson led the majors with 48 saves.

Another reason to root for the Giants: In August, they held Jerry Garcia Night.
