Willie Nelson Busted for Weed in Texas PDF Print E-mail
Saturday, 27 November 2010 00:31

Texas police arrested Willie Nelson at 9 am on Nov. 26 at a border checkpoint in Sierra Blanca. The C&W legend was charged with possessing six ounces of marijuana. He was released at 1:30 pm after posting a $2,500 bond.

Update: The detention report released on Nov. 29 says Nelson was charged with Class A misdemeanor for possessing between two to four ounces of pot, not six as was originally reported.

Willie NelsonBorder Patrol pulled over Nelson's tour bus, which was heading east on I-10. Sierra Blanca is about 90 miles SE of El Paso and 30 miles east of Mexico. After smelling marijuana on the bus, a K-9 search led police to Nelson's stash.

Update: Willie Nelson tells CelebStoner, "There's the Tea Party. How about the Teapot Party? Tax it, regulate it and legalize it."

Nelson spent Thanksgiving in California and was en route to Austin when the bus was stopped. Nelson's next tour stop is in Agora Hill, CA on Jan. 5. It's the second time this year his bus has been pulled over in Sierra Blanca.

In an interview with the El Paso Times, Sheriff Arvin West stated about the bust: "It's kind of surprising, but we treat him like anybody else. He could get 180 days in county jail, which if he does, I'm going to make him cook and clean. He can wear the stripey uniforms just like the other ones do."

Nelson was previously arrested in Breaux Bridge. Louisiana on Sept. 18, 2006 with more than 1.5 pounds of marijuana and three ounces of mushrooms. He pled guilty and paid a $1,024 fine on Apr, 24, 2007.

Earlier this year, on Jan. 28, six members of Nelson's tour crew, including bassist Dan Spears, were issued citations for possessing marijuana and moonshine before a show at Duplin County Events Center in Kenansville, North Carolina.

In  his song, "Me and Paul," Nelson sings: "Almost busted in Laredo for reason that I'd rather not disclose." Listen to "Me and Paul" here.

Nelson's next tour stop is in Agora Hill, CA on Jan. 5.

Leave Willie alone. Let him smoke his weed. They should legalize it. He has never killed anyone from drinking and driving. They should make alcohol illegal and make pot legal. Stupid government. It has gone to hell in a hand basket.

I'm all FOR 'TEAPOT' party. It should be legal, then the government can tax it and make money and we'll all be happy! Especially fast food chains because of all the munchies!! I quit (kinda) but as soon as it's legal where I live, I'm back on the wagon. Alcohol kills, it should be illegal...

To be sure this isn’t Willie’s first visit to the county jail cell. The man who has spent a lifetime flaunting his predilections and his anti-authority stance will probably chalk this up to the few inconveniences he has to tolerate as he goes about being a lovable, albeit a slightly kinked, legend...
