D-Bag of the Week: Iowa State Rep. Clel Baudler PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 27 January 2011 17:50

Iowa State Rep. Clel Baudler flew to California last May with the express purpose of obtaining a medical marijuana card fraudulently. "I have a hate for illegal drug use," says Baudler, who claimed he suffered from depression and hemorrhoids, despite later admitting, "I have never had an issue with depression and I don’t even know what hemorrhoids were."

Clel BaudlerThe former state trooper pulled his stunt in an attempt "to show how asinine it would be to legalize medical marijuana.” Baudler opposes efforts to reclassify marijuana in Iowa, which would allow medical use.

Baudler and his son who lives in California went to the the Green Cure Distribution Center and the Inglewood Health Services Center in Los Angeles. At the latter location he was asked to fill out an application.

"I finished this document in under eight minutes, and the only things I lied about were hemorrhoids, depression and I state that I did not have health insurance," Baudler wrote in a newsletter to supporters in October. "Next time I’m in California, I’m going to use my retired State Patrol I.D. card, my Medicare card, and if anyone can think of something more stupid to claim than hemorrhoids let me know. I will do it again just to show that the 'fight for medical marijuana' isn’t for medical purpose at all, it is all about people just wanting to get high.”

Iowa medical-marijuana activists are calling for Baudler's impeachment. "He planned this crime," says Mike Pesce. "We can’t have lawmakers sitting in this Statehouse planning crimes.”

the guy made his point, no one can dispute that. His point is that it's not medical treatment, it's a veiled excuse to legalize pot.

So what if we want to get high? it's my mind, body, and soul... who are you to make my decisions for me? I can't stand ignorant people. I got an idea: if you don't want nothing to do with cannabis then you have made your decision not to do it... see how that works

"There are better synthetic drugs that are more potent and have fewer side effects."
You cannot be serious! There isn't any synthetic better than cannabis the only one available in the U.S. is Marinol which is pure synthetic THC that means no CBDs no CBNs or any other cannabinoids AT ALL! Those other cannabinoids are much more useful than THC itself. The only one that compares is Sativex which is only available in the U.K.

I was a juror on a "prescription fraud" case. Let me tell you, if you lie about your prescription it IS illegal!

and the majority of them have side-effects, for example, DEATH.

Doesn't sound like he broke a law by filling out the application, more like he was turned down. If he did not obtain the product it sounds to me that he only tested the system. Beside the "medical weed" argument is idiocy. There are better synthetic drugs that are more potent and have fewer side effects.

I think someone in Iowa should contact an attorney for some free legal advice about having this lawbreaker arrested and put in jail where he belongs. His hate for illegal drug use is something every person in office should be without. Those in office should be able to think and make decisions with a clear level head, not a head full of hate. That in itself would be grounds to dismiss anything he says. And if he'll purposely and maliciously lie to prove his point in that situation, he'll purposely and maliciously lie about a lot of other things while in office. It's time for impeachment and a lengthy jail sentence. Good luck to all of you who live in Iowa. I live in KY and I know your pain all too well.

Yes, unless he was there on an official investigation he needs to be arrested.

True that anyone with complaints of severe pain and with a made up history of chronic illness such as cancer or AIDS can get their marijuana prescriptions refilled easily from registered clinics. But are they real patients or illicit drug users who lie to get marijuana prescriptions is a matter of question.
The law should be made stringent in making the doctors identify potential patients before prescribing them marijuana.

Listen to elected Iowa Official Clel Baudler professing his love for morphine and Oxycontin in 2009 in a radio interview. This is the climate we dealing with here in Iowa.
