Montel Williams PDF Print E-mail

Medical marijuana activist and former day-time TV talk-show host Montel Williams suffers from MS. He recently announced his partnership with the Albatin Wellness Cooperative, a dispensary in Sacramento, California.

Montel WilliamsBorn on July 3, 1956 in Baltimore, Williams started his career in the Navy. In 1991, he debuted The Montel Williams Show on KCOP in Los Angeles. It was picked up for syndication by CBS Paramount Television. For the next 16 years, it was a staple of day-time talk. The show was canceled in 2008.

Williams had begun discussing his illness and use of marijuana on the show, but it was after it ended that he became a full-time advocate. Williams has spoken before many state legislatures and reform conferences, often tearing up as he tells his story of spasticity and relief provided by the medicinal use of marijuana.

"For immediate cessation I smoke it," Williams says about his use. "Most of the time I eat it at night because I suffer from extreme tremors in the evening and I also suffer from extreme neuralgic pain in my feet. If I eat it in the evening it takes [the pain] from a six to about a three. When I pop out of bed I'm normally at my best, so that's when I work out and I try to get as much work done early in the day. As I get later on in the day, my feet start to go on fire. When they start to hit the fire mark I'm easing my pain, it's just that simple. I've been speaking to politicians all around the country and all around the world on this issue and you'd be surprised that more people understand and back it and believe in it."

However, Williams also regularly states: "I have never been or will I ever be in favor of the full legalization of marijuana."

On Jan. 4, Williams was arrested for possessing a marijuana pipe at Mitchell International Airport in Milwaukee. The charged was dismissed in April.

Williams has been married three times and has four children.

Screw Montel - he's a prohibitionist! He may be a "celebrity," but he's no stoner. Calling him one is an insult to real stoners everywhere. He was a terrible nomination, and I'm very disappointed with all those who voted for him.

"How can someone who will never be in favor of full legalization be a Top CelebStoner?" I actually agree with that. He is really mostly interested because of himself and what he needs, while disregarding the needs of others. He might be trying to add a legitimized celebrity perspective, but its counter-productive to even himself in my opinion to take that stance. It's like he is afraid of the rhetoric.

Simple fact is the endocannabinoid system protects everyone, and cannabis is a working supplement to this defense system. Part of the reason we eat omega fatty acids is to produce cannabinoids to maintain our health. Recreational use has scores of benefits for society who are educated to facts enough to be responsible. If educational campaigns worked with drunk drivers - a drug that actually lowers inhibition and aggressive behavior - they most certainly can ensure even legalized marijuana would be a non-issue.

this is for the person above me: medicinal marijuana is in some states already legal, just federally it is not. if marijuana was fully legalized it just means that it would be federally legalized, medicinally. meaning that it would still have to be prescribed by a doctor, and in the eyes of the federal government you would be in compliance with the law. it does not mean that you can walk up to your local gas station or smoke shop and buy a pack of joints. it's a prescription to be filled. not cigarettes or alcohol...duhhhh

dear Montel I am a 46 year old female and i have rsd which is a nerve disease and i like you use medical marijuana strictly for my disease, i do not agree on legalizing because it would land in the hands of those who would misuse and minors. I believe it should be used for medical purposes. My reason for contacting you is this is my first year planting and i will have more than i can consume and do not wish to sell to anyone who is not legal to purchase. I have used only organic products on my plants and have groomed and taken extremely good care of them therefore i would like the opportunity to give the dispensary you are partnered with a sample to see if it is possible to become a vendor for your company this upcoming harvest. I would be honored to team up with your organization in this fight to help those in need of this product as myself and you are and look forward to hearing back from you on this matter. Thank you for your time my cell is 530-282-2766 my email is This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
