Horrible Bosses (2011) PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 08 July 2011 01:46

Seth Gordon's homage to Nine to Five, Horrible Bosses, stars Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis and Charlie Day. Watch the trailer below

Horrible BossesNick (Bateman), Kurt (Sudeikis) and Dale (Day) each have an awful boss. Nick's - played by Kevin Spacey - is the worst of the bunch, like Dabney Coleman in Nine to Five. He pushes Nick to the limit as does Kurt's boss (Colin Farrrell), a coke-loving partier. Meanwhile, Dale works for a sex-crazed dentist (Jennifer Aniston), who harasses him to the delight of Kurt and Nick. After several brutal days at the office, the guys conspire to off their respective bosses with the help of con-artist Motherfucker Jones (Jamie Foxx).      Charlie Day, Jason Sudeikis and Jason Bateman

What sounds fairly ordinary plays for big laughs, with Day delivering most of them. Known for his high-pitched chatterbox character on It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Day's kinetic energy is infectious in Horrible Bosses; he's practically worth the price of admission.

When they break into Kurt's boss' house, they find a huge stash of cocaine, which Dale tips over, creating a coke cloud (a la Woody Allen's Albie in Annie Hall). Though he never snorts the stuff, Dale is clearly high for several scenes, as he chatters even faster (if that's humanly possible). "I'm coked out of my brain and I'll punch anybody I want to," Dale declares.

While Nine to Five has as much to do with women's liberation as worker's rights, Horrible Bosses offers no particular lessons, other than murder is hard work and not a suitable option for most oppressed workers, no matter how pissed off they are. It's better to fantasize about revenge than take it, and perhaps move on to a more tolerable workplace.
