Wall St. Journal Three-peats as NYMSL Champions PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 09 September 2011 13:58

Thanks to huge first innings, defending champions Wall St. Journal crushed its two opponents and won the NYMSL title for the third year in a row in Central Park's Heckscher Playground on Sept. 10. WSJ batted around in both innings in each game and never looked back.

In the semifinal round, High Times and WSJ pasted their opponents. HT scored often an early in its 12-0 victory over Newsweek Daily Beast. and WSJ took it to DC Comics, 17-4.

The much anticipated rematch of last year's finalists, WSJ and HT, fizzled when WSJ posted seven runs with a two-out rally in the first inning. Adding four more runs in the second, the rout was on. HT could only knock in three runs and lost without a challenge, 11-3. WSJ's pitcher/coach Russ Adams stymied the Bonghitters with his tough spin delivery and went the distance for the championship game win.

It was a tough loss for the Bonghitters, who won the regular season schedule with a 9-1 record, followed by WSJ (7-3) and DC (6-4). HT defeated WSJ twice in 2011, but on Saturday they couldn't deliver the team's first title since 2007.
