Elvy Musikka, one of the four remaining federal medical marijuana patients, was detained along with other patients after a town-hall meeting in Ontario, Oregon on Sept. 15. According to NORML's Russ Belville, who was at the meeting at the 45th Parallel (1343 SW 30th St.), "Musikka was detained for over an hour in a squad car as the trooper did not believe Musikka's federal paperwork entitling her to possess and use her federally-produced medical marijuana anywhere in the United States."
Musikka, who suffers from glaucoma, has received 300 federally-grown joints each month from the FDA since 1988. She moved from Florida, where the prescription is filled, to Oregon several ago. The joints are packed in a tin and shipped to Musikka.
Police took Musikka's medicine after the stake-out. "The officer said that federal authorities came around instructing them to confiscate marijuana from patients," she told Belville Friday on NORML Show Live. "This is in direct contradiction to what our president has told us, which is patients should be left alone."
Though Musikka was not arrested, her ID and prescription were taken. She has a Oct. 5 court date. The other patients, including Jennifer "Stoney Girl" Valley, were also detained. Police promptly returned Valley's medicine.
Oh the glory of associating with Stoney Girl and a Pitbull franchise. Kinda like the Rush Limbaugh of pot calling the kettle Caucasian. I'm sure he means well but direct association with a clearly criminal entrepreneur is not going to look good in any context. Elvy gets used a lot and this time it was a bit much.

Yup, I remember the day vividly. I was working in Portland, Oregon, when the city leaders of Rancho Cordova, California, called me up and said, "Russ, can you help us? We're trying to pass an ordinance to require a $10,000 license for a medical grow, but we're deadlocked on the issue." Tell ya what, I told them, raise that up to $15,000 and I will use my municipal authority as a NORML employee in another state to sign the new ordinance, which, of course, is legally binding over any authority of the city council, mayor and state legislature. Boy, I gotta say, it's a lot of fun wielding such immense power over California medical marijuana laws from my home in Portland, even more so when I can be directly responsible for putting medical marijuana patients in a financial bind, because nothing thrills me more than hurting sick people. Thanks for helping me recall that fine day, Craig! Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to go fetch some more moustache wax before I tie this helpless damsel up on the railroad tracks. Bwaa haa haa haa! (Damn it, if only my immense power to change California laws worked here in Oregon! I'd love for us to have some California dispensaries up here - even if they were taxed...)

This is just downright cruel. That's like taking someone's medication for seizures or diabetes. What if the people were to die becuz the feds took their prescription marijuana?? Then we'd have a real interesting lawsuit. Don't cops have better things to do? Like eat donuts...

Re: "If the feds would just legalize it, tax it, and redirect the profits back into communities where it belongs the world would be a much better place..."
Patients are already paying 15% or more tax on their medicine, which they can't afford. And medicine is not taxed in this country.
Russ Belville and NORML are directly responsible for the $15,000 license for a 25 square foot MEDICAL grow in Rancho Cordova. What do they intend to do about it?
And let's not forget Steve Elliot, Dale Skye Clare Jones (Mrs. Tomatoes Are Taxed Richard Lee. So, what do they intend to do about? Groceries and prescription medicines are not taxed in California i.e., TOMATOES ARE NOT TAXED Ms. Chancellor of Oaksterdamn U.

I'm a patient and have found in the past that you get harassed leaving the 45th Parallel quite often. If the Feds would just legalize it, tax it and redirect the profits back into communities where it belong,s the world would be a much better place...

So very very wrong. I thought the Feds were suppose to leave those with scripts alone. What is wrong with people? Don't the cops have more important things to do? Get to work on the meth and crack problems we have and leave the marijuana smokers alone. Especially those who have scripts.

What a tragic happening. Another fine example of the government harassing the people who they are supposed to be protecting. I hope everything works out great for Ms. Musikka!

This is another tragedy that is a result of this country's so called War on Drugs. Cannabis is an herb that can help patients in so many difficult situations. I have worked with cancer patients and feel strongly that cannabis can help with their pain and help them with appetite. Obama has let us down - on so many levels. Sad.
