Portland Trailblazer center Marcus Camby was arrested for possession of marijuana (two ounces or less) in a drug-free zone on Cullen Blvd. in Pearland, Texas (just south of Houston ) on Oct. 5 at 12:05 pm. Police stopped Camby's Porsche for an "equipment violation," smelled pot and searched the car. Both Camby and his cousin Kendal Johnson were taken to jail and released on $2,000 bond each.
On Oct. 5, the charged was dismissed against Camby when Johnson took the rap. He pled guilty and paid a $1,500 fine.
This was the veteran Camby's second pot bust. In 1997, he was arrested in South Windsor, Connecticut. The charge was dropped after he completed community service.
Selected No. 2 overall in the 1997 draft out of the University of Massachusetts by Toronto, the 6-11Canby was traded to the Knicks in 1998 and has since played for Denver, the Clippers and Portland. He was the NBA's Defensive Player of the Year in 2006-07, and has averaged 10 points and 10 rebounds per game during his 16-year career.
