Sex Pot author Mamakind writes advice columns for Skunk that make Dan Savage look tame. She says marijuana is the aphrodisiac of the gods. On this point, we're on the same page. But beyond that, Mamakind is totally out of my league.
She's like s a starting pitcher for the Yankees while I'm still tossing whiffle ball. I really hope readers of Sex Pot: The Marijuana Lover's Guide to Gettin' It On (from Quick Trading) understand that Mamakind is, first and foremost, a character, and that she makes her bread and butter by being over-the-top.
Though Mamakind reminds them it’s dangerous to insert potentially dirty objects up into their nether regions, she does so while explaining how one should insert potentially dirty objects up into their nether regions. But that’s the thing: Once you stop worrying that some high school kid is going to mutilate his blitzed-out girlfriend, the truth is, Sex Pot is fascinating and, frankly, absolutely hilarious.
Let me tease you with this: Mamkind doesn’t consider the first quarter of the book to be “kink," yet she devotes numerous pages to a vagina bong (a.k.a. pussy tokes). By the time you get to the “Fetishes and Anal” section, which I had to read at times through splayed fingers, your mind will be blown and your understanding of the temple of the human body forever altered. Only LSD and an orgy could do it better.
The book begins with Mamakind waxing nostalgic about her life’s sexual exploits, most of which will make you go, "Seriously? You can do that and still have functioning genitalia?" There are questions and answers from her fans. The book has parts that are exclusively about sex, parts about pot and parts that weave the two together like the caramel ribbon joining nuts with vanilla ice cream.
Overall, I was baffled, disgusted, uproariously amused and aroused often enough that I can honestly say Mamakind is a pretty cool, if twisted, chick.
