Gary Johnson Visits Occupy Wall Street PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 19 October 2011 16:09

Rather than debate his Republican rivals, Gary Johnson spent Tuesday night at Liberty Park talking to Occupy Wall Street protesters. Today at a Town Hall meeting at the Yippie Cafe in New York, the former New Mexico governor said, "I'm pissed. I share in this outrage that this country does dole out unfair advantage to individuals, to groups, to businesses that are well-backed politically as opposed to creating an environment that's a level playing field, that all of us have equal access. These guys (on Wall Street) made some incredibly bad decisions. It should've been rewarded with failure. But it wasn't. We bailed them out, costed a trillion bucks and I couldn't be more outraged."

Gary Johnson - LibertyJohnson was thrilled about the Gallup Poll that says for the first time a majority of Americans want to see marijuana legalized. "That is so cool," he remarked. "That means debates now with whomever it is we engage on a daily basis, it's an equal debate. You're not looking down on me, you're looking at me level. It's incredibly positive."

Johnson also made a bold prediction: that Colorado will be the first state to tax and regulate marijuana. "The notion of legalizing marijuana, I think it's gonna happen and we're gonna wake up tomorrow and be surprised," he stated. "'It's just gonna be a domino that falls. I think it's gonna be Colorado voting to legalize it in 2012. Do that and this country takes a giant step - just gigantic steps - toward a rational drug policy, which looks at drugs first as a health issue rather than a criminal justice issue. This right now is very doable."

I agree with him. I wish that more of the candidates would get involved this way.
