Feds Target Oaksterdam PDF Print E-mail
Saturday, 22 October 2011 10:35

Richard LeeThe Department of Justice's campaign to dismantle California's medical marijuana industry is spreading to Oakland, where Coffeeshop Blue Sky (377 17th St.), owned by Prop 19's chief funder Richard Lee, has received an eviction notice. California NORML's Dale Gieringer says, "It smacks of politics."

Lee also owns Oaksterdam University and the Bulldog Coffeeshop (1939 Broadway). Blue Sky is within a block of a charter high school.

Steve DeAngelo has his own problems with the Feds, who've hit his Harborside Health Center with a $2.5 million IRS bill. One of the leaders of the so-called Oaksterdam community, DeAngelo maintains, "I warned everybody from the City Council on down who was pushing for those four huge farms that there would be consequences (referring to Oakland's plan to allow for industrial grow facilities that was derailed by a U.S. Attorney Melinda Haag). And I warned people who were pushing Prop. 19 that losing elections would have consequences. In large part what we're seeing is the consequences of an overreach by our community."

About Lee, DeAngelo adds: "Richard is an absolute pillar of the medical cannabis movement - he paved the way for a lot of us. It's absolutely critical that the community stand up and support Coffeeshop Blue Sky."

It's a damn shame that the government can't see what they are losing out on this is or could be one of the biggest companies in the country. Hell if I could smoke I would, but as it is I need a job to support my family. What I don't like is you can buy beer and it's not illegal and more people get killed by drunk drivers than someone stoned on a little weed that God put on this planet for us to use. He did not put beer and other stuff that is man-made here, just the plants & water. The government is lost and doesn't like anyone that can do good and make a profit.

Rich is an absolute stand-up guy and as a friend I can honestly say he is the last person the Feds should be targeting. I dare anyone to name one other person from the MMJ community that staked their entire savings on a campaign initiative pushing for real legalization. Shoot, I wouldn't do it. Rich is a passionate man who has ten times the balls of any other activist. He literally spent more than he had on an issue that is obviously near and dear to him. My point is, don't bitch about something unless you're willing to lose it all. I would hate to see Rich go down as a MMJ Martyr, but I've always had a sneaking suspicion he'd jump in front of the bullet given the right situation. I for one will continue to give up one 1/4 of my weekly MMJ budget and donate $100 a month to whatever cause Rich supports. Please do the same.

The feds really need to step in BIG and take out these drug dealers. This has been going on for far too long. The US government for the past decade or more has shown that they are very weak and they often target people who don't have any power or money at all. Stand up for once, government. Show that you can bring our society back to being good and get rid of these f***ing drug pushers. We need your help.

Open Letter to Governor Peter Shumlin of Vermont

Dear Peter,

My White House "We the People" citizen petition received over 5,000 online signatures yesterday and qualifies for an Official White House response. I e-mailed Patrick Leahy, Bernie Sanders & Peter Welch, but e-mails to their offices sometimes take a long time for a response (sometimes!).

For my "Official White House response" from the Administration of President Obama, I would like YOU and Patrick & Bernie & Peter Welch to INVITE PRESIDENT Obama to Vermont to discuss the issues raised in the petition - marijuana, cannabis, hemp:

(1) farmers say hemp prohibition is economic treason;

(2) medical marijuana patients are at risk of federal interference;

(3) Vermont jails and/or probation officers are overburdened with mere marijuana possession offenders.

Please take the time to read my petition. There are actually three legal causes of action in the petition. Please contact our three Vermont U.S. Congressional officers and arrange for the four of you to invite President Obama to Vermont for a get-together with him and explain that because a Vermont resident wrote the petition, and that you four are basically running the State of Vermont, that it is really up to you all to get together and publicly discuss the issues in the citizen petition.

Thank you!

Sincerely,
Cris Ericson

I don't think Prop. 19 was "overreach" at all. It only failed because of its terrible flaws that were written into it. The Regulate Marijuana Like Wine initiative has none of these flaws, and can easily pass, as long as we don't allow ourselves to be divided by Stoners Against Legalization.

It's time to stop the madness and legalize marijuana and hemp. The legalization of these could and would drastically change the economic status of this country.

What we are experiencing here is blatant bullying by the Feds. We must remember this is the same corporation that helps "civilians" in other countries KILL their leaders. Yet here all who oppose something and use our DEMOCRACY TO CHANGE THINGS THROUGH VOTING end up arrested and have the Feds TAKE THEIR HOMES AND CARS AND BUSINESSES. But remember Al Gore was president for two hours and if they can take the presidency away they can pretty much do whatever they want. If we fight it is obvious we will be incarcerated or crazy as it may sound....dead. Sad times.
